I returned from #WHY2025, quite happy but also exhausted, yesterday afternoon.

I was greeted by a happy family - and a broken dishwasher.

Still high on Hacker Spirit, I decided to take it apart just in case I found something obvious I could fix. Who cares that I know nothing of electronics? I'm a software dev with a screwdriver!

Two zip-ties later - leftovers from the dome we constructed at camp - the dishwasher is working again.

Tiny leftovers from WHY, making life that little bit better...

... the diagnosis after disassembly, was that my 1.5yo toddler has been mashing the buttons on the front of the dishwasher with such enthusiasm, that she broke some of the plastic tabs that held everything in place.

Without their support, pressing the power button made Nothing Happen.

Thus, zip-ties. Sometimes that's all it takes!

(Full disclosure: Maybe it wasn't baby's fault. Maybe us adults pushed the buttons too hard. Or the plastic was just old and brittle. Or all of the above!)
