On bridging between networks vs cross-posting:

"They’re similar, but they’re different in some important ways. Notably, bridging results in more unified conversations, while cross-posted conversations are more fragmented."

That's why Bridgy Fed's approach is so interesting - and, imo, important.

This is making me think about the evolutionary trajectory of Matrix. Not that that's something that makes sense to replicate here, but it makes me wonder if there's a new protocol that could emerge out of bridging infrastructure?

Like, what's the superset of features, functionality, and logic that bridging will end up having to abstract? Could that become a bridging toolkit for 3rd parties to implement instead of implementing activitypub, atproto, etc. When does that toolkit become the native?

I think a similar dynamic will play out with AP enabled articles, videos and podcasts compared to the closed platforms. linking to that work from your social media account (not to mention multiple accounts) will end up being a much worse experience for creators than having that work each be its own social media item.

this will end up being our "killer app".
