Wildfire smoke is dangerous for our health. It is carried by the wind, impacting people hundreds, or even thousands, of miles away. Inhaling the tiny particles in smoke can worsen many existing health issues, especially lung conditions.
In 2024, Washington had 64 “large” fires. The Washington Tracking Network (WTN) has published a new data story about last season’s biggest fires, the number of smoky days each community experienced across the state, and how that overlaps with areas with socioeconomic levels.
