@PhoenixSerenity @chris No, I cannot. I spoke about other topics, and did not talk about like accessibility.

It's fair to say that all of us should have these issues at top of mind and on the tip of our tongues. I am sorry to say that they were not for me that day.

I read that you were not happy with the stated masking policies at Fedicon. It's justified. There were masks available for everyone at the event, though, and about 1/4 of the people were masked.

@evan @chris It was actually only 10-15% masked & it was an ableists event. Organized by a guy who still didn't use #AltText in 2025. You spoke, unmasked & so did Chris & every other presenter. It tells #PeopleWithDisabilities that again - we don't matter & it's gonna harm the Fedi if that weak justification attitude continues.

@PhoenixSerenity @chris A lot of Fediverse event organisers are first-timers, as was the case with #Fedicon. That's not an excuse, but maybe an explanation for why there wasn't a policy.

I think it would be a good idea for us to put together a list of good practices for Fediverse events to be diverse and participative: emphasizing speaker diversity, having a code of conduct, encouraging masks, having childcare available. I'm going to check with event organisers to see what the best place is.

@evan @chris You all need to truly consult with real people with disabilities & support our advices. Do not ever let a public ableist organize a future FediCon unless you want more public firestorms.

We, disabled folks, should not have to fight for inclusive spaces in 2025! No fucking event organizer can honestly say they care about disabled people when having zero accessibility info & zero covid safety mitigation policies.

Offering free masks at entry - after I've lit fires on ableism online = straight up weakass damage control PR.
How the fuck are disabled people safe, when it's voluntary last minute crap & only 10% of attendees are fucking masked.
Zero photos of majority attendees masked up because it never fucking happened.

@evan @chris except thus organizer bragged about having lots of previous events organizing experience, prior & it was repeated on his own promo thread on his profile.
I check shit before big call outs.
