I’m very tempted to buy a cheap Super 8 camera (probably a Yashica) and I don’t know if I want to be talked out of it or talked into it.

@Gargron Do it! I thought about getting something more recent with VHS tape... The plus side being that VHS is also a great storage medium for audio as well. But luckily I have no use case :D

@Gargron I have a Cosina Super-8 videocamera lying around here, don't know if it still works.

@Gargron My dream is Super 16mm, shot on an Arri SRII - probably will never come true. But I like spending time to think about it.

@16bit It does sound nice, but 16mm is a whole price class above Super 8 😅 Still, it's not 35mm, it is doable!

@Gargron

Are there still companies that would process ("entwickeln") the films for you, or would you need to do that yourself?

@Gargron

IIRC, the film for it gets pretty expensive. And of course, editing and projection equipment is a whole new workflow. Unless you want to convert it to digital video, and that'll require a scanner (or a service).

OTOH ... actual film.

@Gargron When I can't justify getting a new piece of junk I make a deal with myself to get rid of an old piece of junk first.

Usually I end up keeping both but sometimes I do get rid of that old junk and I feel really good about myself for a day or two.

@vadhakara Calling it junk is a bit loaded.
