@cstross Terry Pratchett's Going Postal. Not only did I see a lot of myself in Moist at that time, I played Moist in a play a couple of years later and met my future wife in it.

I think I remember reading a Terry #Pratchett quote recommending that an aspiring writer should read as much as they can, but I sadly can't find it again.
