I am immunocompromised and my partner recently tested positive for covid which he may have gotten at work. We are very careful but it can be hard to avoid when everything insists on going back to normal.

Luckily, isolation still works and is still worth it in 2025!

The pharmacist where I get my specialty meds (which I need due to an autoimmune disorder originally triggered by covid in 2022), told me it could be very serious if i so much as got a fever and that I should not wait if I start to get sick and would need to try and get antivirals right away. He was NOT reassuring and ended our phone call with "Good luck..."

How we isolated:
- he was mostly in the bedroom area with the door that closes, i was in the living room area
- well fitting kn95/n95 masks any time either of us had to use a shared area
- air purifiers in both areas (ikea ones are pretty okay)
- we tried to keep the windows open but we have been under heavy air quality warnings due to wildfires and had to close them, so the purifiers did a lot of heavy lifting
- we didn’t do great on keeping dishes completely separate as someone suggested but they were promptly washed
- replaced and washed towels and cloths as much as possible
- since we only have one bathroom, clean toilet between uses, anything that required taking my mask off like brushing my teeth i did in the kitchen sink (washing hair sucked, the counter is so high!)
- repeated testing
