You know what would be cool for non-technical people?

The internet utopia I was expecting when I was younger involves blackboxes sold to non-technical people to self-host services. Like, here, I bought a mastodon instance, I connect it to the internet (just like any appliance or device nowadays), and boom, I am selfhosting it.

There are also blackboxes for other services, like a peertube channel, and a pixelfed for all the family. All under your family domain. Automated updates like your android phone.

#fediverse #selfhost

@mapache I love the idea. Perhaps a "social media creator" package that takes a bunch of different social protocol software like Masto, PeerTube, Ghost etc. along with a workspace suite (NextCloud?) and chat or forum software (for a community hub) all in one, and fully managed. Plus, add some if-this-then-that automation in the mix (ie. when a new video goes out on PeerTube, post it to Mastodon, the community channels, and my Ghost newsletter).
