Reddit go with Persona for age verification of U.K. users. They confirm it won’t just be for pornographic content but all harmful content categories covered by the online safety act. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/07/reddit-starts-verifying-ages-of-uk-users-to-comply-with-child-safety-law/ #privacy #redditt#AgeGate

Among other disasters waiting to happen Persona’s privacy policy states they will send personal data to places the European Commission has not determined to have an adequate level of data protection. https://withpersona.com/legal/privacy-policy

@JamesBaker might be worth a complaint to the data commish's in Ireland or Netherlands & the UK... forcible exclusion of data subjects rights in order to use the service perhaps?

Depends which countries and what data ofc

@bob_maluga Don’t have much faith in the UKs ICO as a data protection regulator. Still could well be worth looking at T&C closely and putting in complaints all the same.

@JamesBaker good point. The number of data traders based in the same area as ICO hq is no coincidence I'm sure.

Private litigation under DPA and PECR is an option, but takes a lot of time and effort as a LIP. Might be better to drive via the EU and reference back in the UK after the fact?
