This article about the infamous "Central Motorway" in Newcastle is proper carbrained. The Central Motorway and the other car-centric changes made in the 60s and 70s almost ruined the city and we're only gradually recovering and making the city centre walkable, rather than an absolute car sewer. Thank god the whole insane scheme with the elevated walkways and stuff never went into effect.
