Nicely written. I know these feelings well.
I was seduced for a while but my last MacBook was 2012 when I happily returned to open source and sustainable hardware. I'm a long time Unix/Linux person. It was like a breath of fresh air.

Recently I got that feeling that my use of anything Google was a violation of my ethics. That sent me down another rabbit hole or two. I'm getting there. Google play is all I have left.

@Zenie Yes, agreed, google is another one to pull away from! Only thing holding me to my google account are a couple of forms used on a client's website. Hope to be free of that later this year.
