Depending on an OS controlled by Goggle has always been comprising. Maybe the EU will fund a fully open source mobile OS, to the level necessary to reverse engineer support for all mobile devices sold in the EU? Or even more ambitious, require companies importing mobile devices into the EU to supply enough technical specs for libre drivers to be written for any mobile OS.
