I've thought for a long time that #OwnCast servers were somehow part of the fediverse, like PeerTube servers are. But in this interview with founder and lead developer Gabe Kangas, he seems to be saying that it isn't;

@strypey Opt-in. An Owncast server is always private by default and you have to enable features to change that.

How is that made clear to admins when they establish a new OwnCast server, and to streamers when they create an account on one? It would be a crying shame if people thought their streams were discoverable via the fediverse when they're not.

@strypey I'm guessing you don't use Owncast or haven't had an opportunity to check it out as you can't create an account on an Owncast server. If after you try it out you have specific concerns do please bring them up. No offense, but right now it seems like you're criticizing something you've never experienced.
