FYI "Stand up" is geek jargon, for setting up a new server. To "stand up an instance of Mastodon", is to set up a new server running a copy of the Mastodon software.

FYI part II, both FunkWhale and CastoPod are part of the fediverse, the federated social network Mastodon servers are part of;

fediverse.party/

What this means in practice is that an account on a Mastodon server can be used to follow creators publishing music on a FunkWhale server, or podcasts on a CastoPod server. Check out also two newer music-related server projects, FairCamp;

@strypey Thanks so much for checking out the episode! And thank you for breaking down the meaning of "stand up." Needless to say, I'm a newbie to the fediverse, but the more I hang out, the more that I enjoy my time here.

Both Simon Repp of Faircamp and Ben Pate of Bandwagon have been interviewed on the Lorenzo's Music podcast. Great conversations. All of this tech dev and indie music activity within an open source context keeps me coming back to see what happens next in this space.
