I really hate the phrasing I hear a lot about "disabled people and those with additional needs."
I understand that not everyone who benefits from accessibility/inclusivity provisions considers themselves disabled. I am fine with wanting to broaden this out as much as possible.
But..."additional" to what?
Everyone has access needs. Most abled people just don't know what theirs are.
I actually got to say "Everybody has access needs, it's just that neurotypical and biotypical people are used to having theirs met all the time" in an important meeting about accessibility with An Important Person yesterday.
I don't know how much difference it made (to them or to the other attendees), but it felt good.
@bright_helpings I was talking with, like, Tech People a bit ago and braille & TTS Linux kernel modules came up and had to extremely strongly explain/insist-- Keyboards and screens are an accessibility technology! Their entire point is purely to provide access, that's literally all they do!
They just provide access to YOU and the people YOU spend most of your time thinking about, and so you don't think of that as "access" you think of that as "necessary components".

(And you can even get further, because the REASON that ed(1) was designed and why vi was built differently is that they were providing as-much-access-as-possible to (on the computer end) the same resources and capacities, targetting two different sets of physical and mental capabilities (line-printer vs. character terminal; user capability (and desire to use that capability) of holding the whole file mentally at once; etc.).)

Real programmers rub their socks on the carpet, then point at the hard disk.
And even in that scenario, the socks, the carpet, and whatever mounts the HD in a spot where their finger can reach it are all accessibility tools.

@bright_helpings That's such an important point.
Like...our entire traffic infrastructure, cars, everything, is meeting accessibility needs. We're just used to not thinking about people who can't do without cars as "disabled", but people who can't do without wheelchairs, are.
