My most recent bookbinding project, made as gifts for the ringleaders of my online book club. To some extent, this is a Dad joke taken several steps too far, and an excuse to learn how to do a drum leaf binding.
I know a woman who just retired and does a lot of interesting crafts - ceramics, sowing, book binding and gardening - and she's tired of Meta. I think she would be an interesting addition to the craft community on the fediverse - and for all others who like to see images of craft. What platform (Mastodon, Pixelfed) and especially instances specifically would be an appropriate place for her to join?

Small part of the small library I am building.

Beautiful to see & even better to watch the process… all the many processes. Slow work but lasting. 🥰

I made a leather cover for my e-reader tablet with magnets that completely (and safely) encloses it. Not my most elegant work but I had to do a few work arounds to incorporate the magnets and make a spine that wouldn't crack when folded back upon itself. It closes very firmly. #LeatherCraft #maker #tablet #HandMade #humour #books #BookBinding

Wanted to do something today that wasn't on the laptop. I've been wanting to start get into book binding and so I figured I'd start simple and create a couple of Field Notes type notebooks.
I have two notebooks now. I made a lot of mistakes, but I know where I need to improve which is good. But, 48 pages, one using a simple stitch, and another using a chain stitch.
Going to treat this like needing to forge a thousand knives before I can create a sword

Research klaxon!!
I'm collaborating on a piece about #medieval women in #bookbinding and would love to know if there's scholarship about medieval #Islamic and East #Asian women working in the trade?
Please do share! (You be thanked in the article)
