He sired Duncan, and he takes care of Fenella with every bit of himself. So yes, he’s responsible for far more than just himself, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.

If I’m alone, that no doubt means that Fenella is as well. I can’t trust either of those men. They might harm her, and I would *never* allow that to happen.

No one *truly* knows how old Isma is. And no, he doesn't act his age. He might feel it, but he never acts it. I'll leave some dialogue down below. It was from a conversation between Alistair and Eleanor, his maid. They're rather close friends at this point. For context, this story takes place in 1890.

“He befriended Socrates,” he said by way of explanation. “Sophocles, Aeschylus, Euripides, and Sappho. He knew them all.”
She swallowed the lump in her throat. “Do you mean to say… Are you sure?”
“I’m quite sure, yes,” he responded. “He spoke of them often. I’m not entirely sure how long he had been alive at that point, or if he was bloodbound or not. I only know he was alive, whether a vampire or not. His name is Isma. He’s a callus, cruel man. I separated myself from him long ago. He’s a murderer, and an old world vampire. He’ll never change.”

Alistair is a published author.
1. Did they choose this profession for themselves or were they pressured into it by someone else?
Alistair *chose* to be an author. No one else forced him to do it. He needed a creative outlet, same as with his art.
2. If they chose it for themselves, why did they do it?
He has a lot of memories and stories to share. There are things he can weave into his plots along the way, memories or things that organically develop into the plot and help the story progress. He has a lot of experience to draw back on. Aside from that, he’s a naturally creative person. Writing fiction is *fun* for him.
3. Regardless of how they got into this profession, do they enjoy it?
He still enjoys it, no matter how much has passed him by. He always will. Like I said, writing is a fun activity for him.
4. If they were not in this profession, what would they be doing instead?
If he wasn’t an author, he would be a full-time artist. He’s a rather talented artist as it is, but he rarely ever sells or even shows off his work. It’s just a hobby for him.

I’ll include an excerpt that explains things better than I ever could. At the moment this takes place, Alistair and Fenella have just learned the information we’re discussing. It’s also a favorite scene of mine, featuring Duncan and Fenella. Alistair has just stormed out of the room.

This is just something to ponder. I find it interesting to read or talk about. That's all.
"The type of antagonist will depend on the specific story being written, but common antagonists include a purely evil villain with no motivation, a relatable antagonist with whom the audience can sympathize, a hypocritical antagonist who is two-faced, or an antagonist that is a force of nature or an internal struggle within the protagonist. A good antagonist often has complex motivations, a clear backstory, and their actions drive the plot forward and challenge the protagonist's thematic orientation."
Thoughts:
Villain: A character who is actively evil and seeks to prevent the protagonist from achieving their goals.
Anti-villain: A character whose motives are not entirely evil but still work against the protagonist.
Relatable Antagonist: A character who is scary because they have qualities that remind the audience of themselves.
Hypocritical Antagonist: Someone who pretends to be good but is actually wicked.
Frightening Antagonist: Someone who evokes fear more than hatred.
Skilled Antagonist: Someone whose skills are matched to the protagonist's abilities.
Insane Antagonist: Someone whose unpredictable nature makes them a formidable foe.
Traitorous Antagonist: Someone who betrays a friend or family member.

For my own story, Duncan is more of the traditional evil antagonist, as in an actual villain. He's just pure evil, filled with hatred for mortals, the same hatred for vampires and werewolves alike as well, and obsessed with the very idea of possessing things. He wants to kill. He wants to hunt. There's nothing redeemable about him. Saying anything more for the time being would probably give away some big spoilers, so I'll refrain.

Ooooh, I love this one. It's definitely Hati and Alistair! They're friendship goals (and also my absolute favorite to write). These two are so close. They tease each other constantly, they're always there for one another, and they'll protect each other to their final breaths. The sass is off the charts as well. People, on occasion, even think they're lovers. I'll include two funny moments from different chapters.
