Sometimes it's worth being that annoying person: I just survived a four-hour (!) long online professional development course on giving feedback and at the beginning of the training I made my participation conditional on the default #Zoom option to have the meeting "transcribed by AI" to be deactivated. Once I'd explained to the trainer how to do this, they happily obliged. They had apparently never thought about what this process entails. Next time, I might dare to comment on the unnecessary and honestly totally distracting #GenAI images on the slides, too...

Zoom untersteht überdies chinesischer Kontrolle und #Zensur, da relevante Teile der Entwicklung in #China stattfinden.

Der Preis geht auch an alle Gruppen, insbesondere Menschenrechts- sowie #Umwelt- und #Klimaorganisationen, die Zoom einsetzen und damit ihre Teilnehmer.innen der #Überwachung preisgeben, obwohl es freie und datenschutzfreundliche Alternativen gibt.

Is there a good non-AI alternative to #Zoom? I don’t mind paying for a good product but I don’t want to pay Zoom for invasive AI BS. Is it just me, or has #Zoom become buggier and less reliable in the last few months for anyone else?

A while ago I came up with a hacked together script to launch ready to run #jitsi instances via #hetzner cloud, including pre-set credentials, recording functionally and automatic upload of the recording at the end. Last feature unfortunately never properly worked.

For once it wasn't reliable enough and for the other #zoom was too convenient, so I did not go further with it.
