Our last Repair Café of 2025 at Leixlip Library was a busy one.

Across the morning, we logged 39 items: lamps, tape players, baby monitor, paper shredder, outdoor socket, clothes, shoes, backpacks, Christmas decorations, an air fryer and even a bear with an electronic problem.

Big thanks as well to Leixlip Library and the Kildare County Council Climate Action Office for backing the event.

Nice to see a company spinning up new embedded computers by repurposing old smarphones.

Makes sense they'd be partnering with Fairphone. I've pondered reusing old phones as part of new products off and on over the years, but securing the supply of phones (of a specific model) is something that's put me off digging further into it.

1. What is the life expectancy of current generation photovoltaic #solarpower panels?
2. What is the physical process which causes degradation?
3. At the end of economic life, could they be refurbished for reuse, and if not, why not?
4. If they cannot be refurbished, what proportion of the components can be recycled?
