Greek authorities rescued 545 migrants from a vessel off Gavdos Friday, one of the largest recent operations as arrivals from Libya continue to rise sharply.
The southernmost Greek island with fewer than 100 permanent residents, Gavdos has recently emerged as a migration hotspot, with rescue missions now occurring almost daily.

- Mass surveillance ( #ChatControl, #dataretention, #omnibus )
- Threatening the access to free information, communication and journalism ( #ChatControl again)
- Society of digital control in the interest of big tech corporations and authoritarian institutions ( #digitalidentity, #europol)
- Drowing people in the mediterranean and letting them suffer and die at EU borders ( #Frontex)
- Reckless Militarism, authoritarianism, neonationalism and neoliberalism, normalisation of corruption and lobbyism in and by your postdemocratic institution.
Nope, that's definitely no culture or vision worth to fight for. Quite the opposite actually.
Contrasts the all-too-familiar "invasion" framing with other maps
I believe #Frontex needs to be defunded and dismantled.
It's become a state within the state (or the union) - unaccountability is a problem in and of itself, and a breeding ground for further problems.
The whole complex is a festering abscess in the human rights record of the EU.

If you’re unaware, the EU has engaged in mass surveillance in the Global South far ahead of attempts to ram #ChatControl through the EU legal system.
Done underhandedly through Frontex, the EU handed data-extraction tools capable of retrieving call logs, photos, GPS locations and WhatsApp messages from any phone to West African nations, helping transfer migration data from host countries to the EU.
