- Aren't run by blatantly-unethical companies?
- Aren't based on a search engine created by any blatantly-unethical company?
- Don't use "generative AI" bollocks?
- Haven't disabled showing 100 results?
- Have a decent interface?
- Actually provide decent results?

Edit 2025-09-25: Tried both Mojeek and Ecosia. Not a fan of either. Mojeek showed up to 40 results, but they were rubbish. Ecosia showed better results, but can't seem to get a larger number or all on one page. 100% don't want to use a search engine designed for "AI" 🥺 Also cannot afford to pay for searching.
