#macOS could easily gain market share by releasing a #Mac/#MacBook with (off the shelves) replaceable RAM and Storage... but #Apple ain't about making easy money like that lol. They'd rather bait you with veeery fair pricing base models... and then upcharge you 10x the market price (not a joke) for memory/storage upgrades.
Fortunately these base models have 16GB of RAM now (for the same price as before)... but still. In any computer, these two parts are likely the first to die, esp storage, and having them soldered or packaged together with the SOC is... mind-boggling, for something you'd want to put to use for as long as possible.

Running #IceCubesApp on #tahoe.
The font in the app is totally fine and crisp when the windows is on the local “retina”-display of the #MacBook.
But on the external display, connected via DisplayLink (hardware-adapter), the font is blurred or unsharp.
Moving the app window back to the internal display: navigation is re-rendered and everything is crisp again.

One more screenshot of the classic MacOS 8/9 theme under XFce. Honestly, from all the themes I've done, this one I enjoy the most. It's rather convincing because it doesn't use docks or launchers that all modern OSes use, so it feels different.

Give them MacBooks…running a "cool" version of Linux. Snagged 2 old Airs for just €50 each.
Wiped macOS, & installed @elementary - a clean, distro that feels familiar to macOS users but comes with a lot less bloat.
Now they’ve got "cool" Apple gear, with the the rich world of #Linux that respects their freedom and sparks curiosity.

I got yet another Mac. It's a Macbook Air 13" from 2012, got it for $120. I love these old Intel Macs. Obviously the old MacOS was deleted to make space for an updated Linux Mint. Everything worked great, except the b43 wifi driver, which made the laptop not to wake up from sleep. I blacklisted 2-3 drivers it was pulling along with it, and I now use a tiny wifi dongle with great success. Overall, very happy.

A colleague gave me an old Macbook Pro 9.2, which was too slow even to open Safari or read emails...
After upgrading the ram from 4 to 16gb, changing the old HDD for a new SSD, installing #Fedora... I made a Zoom call while I had 20 tabs open on Firefox, with Nextcloud, Thunderbird, Telegram and Emacs open in the background.
But the thing that amazed me was the strange sense of #empowerment (?) I felt during the process.
