So, I want to add an S3-compatible storage service local to my home lab (currently I'm using Backblaze). Basically I want it to run as a Docker service on my Synology NAS. It needs to run in the Synology because I want it to be external to my servers. I'm undecided between Garage or SeaweedFS.
Not MinIO. No, not Ceph. Not a VM. Not a Pi. Not in Kubernetes.
Anyone have/had that very particular setup and can share their experiences? Thanks in advance.

Well that was disappointing.
I was getting excited to try and fix the problem of my #Synology #DS216 NAS crashing when trying to use rsync, by using the great guide here: https://blog.fedorov.com.au/, to see if I could replace the memory with a bigger DIMM.....
Got it all apart, then it turns out "v1.0" of the motherboard doesn't have a DIMM slot - all the RAM must be soldered on 😭
His guide shows "v1.1" on the motherboard, and the model is a "DS216+" instead.

if you run Tailscale on a Synology NAS, read the bit about how you have to update it through a cron task. It won't automatically update otherwise and then you'll discover you are like 40 point releases behind in no time.

I'm looking to purchase my first #NAS. The internet is recommending a Synology DS225+ but I'm also reading that they force you to buy #Synology drives and I'm not sure the lock-in is a positive sign?
So what other brands should I be looking for? I basically want to run my #Jellyfin server on it so the whole family can stream audio and video to our #Android + #iOS devices and listen to some banging tunes on the #Sonos speaker at home.

They SAY passwords were hashed, but PLEASE #reset your plex #password and force a sign-out on ALL devices using their interface as follows:
When doing so, there's a checkbox to "Sign out connected devices after password change," which we recommend you enable.
Irritating...especially cos they don't say WHEN this happened!
PS: On Synology search the /volumes/Plex (or whatever you named it) for Preferences.xml - and continue with these instructions. I don't know why they don't include the #Synology instructions... they put out the Synology app!

I just gave up on the VPS and the #pihole
I'm even considering to move away from my #synology#NAS and use a "clean" cloud service. Drive, photos backup, contacts/calendar/tasks (but my mail being on #mailfence, I could already have those 3 on my current subscription).
