Dear Senator Baldwin,
We are voters in Madison, and writing to ask you—more urgently than ever before—to publicly state, on the record, that you oppose any appropriations bill that increases funding for ICE or Border Patrol.
The moment demands bold action, not just to resist harmful policies, but to confront the rising authoritarianism threatening our democracy.
Specifically, in March, we support a government shut down unless DHS:
1. Strengthens restrictions on ICE and Border Patrol’s ability to conduct dragnet arrests and target people based on race, language, accent, place of employment, or location;
2. Limits DHS’s ability to reprogram or transfer funds for detention.
We were disappointed when your colleagues ended the last shutdown, conceding everything to the other side after many endured a great deal of pain. As a senior senator, your leadership is critical. If your colleagues cave again, it will reflect on you—and on all of us.
Indivisible groups are doing our part: we are building a wave of support for any senators who lead on this.
We need that same courage now, in Wisconsin.
Be our leader. The time for caution is over.
Sincerely,
