Having stumbled on @zotero I'm hoping it's applicable to my style of research, which is just bookmarks ATM but could do with things like categories, notes and highlighting.
Unfortunately I will have to use Firefox or LibreFox if I want to use their "connectors" but I will try the "save" page too (as I mostly use #BraveBrowser these days).
So… talk to me about #Zotero … How do you use it? WHY do you use it versus other tools? What do you like most?
I realize I am maybe 15 or 20 years late to the Zotero party, but 3 things have me interested now:
- I’m taking on a project at work that involves a good amount of research
- I have some ideas for papers and maybe a book that would benefit from more structured organization
- I do a bit of #Wikipedia editing and have seen mentions of Zotero helping with citations
I use Mac / IOS.

I'm running an improvised tutorial on #Zotero at my work tomorrow. Do you all have useful tips that I could share with my "students" - beyond the basics? Or specific use cases that you might use it for, beyond citing references in papers that you write?
For example I recently moved on to using its integrated PDF reader for peer-reviewing and it works well!
I recently discovered that if you copy marked text from #Zotero, it's pasted in quote marks followed with an in-text citation parenthesis (author-year-page format)! #AcademicChatter
It looks like #Zotero won't install on Ungoogled Chromium because ... Google.

Luckily I have a backup about 2 weeks old... should be able to reference that. Thank goodness for backups!

For those of you who read lots of papers or non-fiction that you need to reference again, how do you manage all of that data and relate it to other things?
I’ve been using #zotero and #obsidian to make a sort of knowledge management #wiki, but organizing the data from highlights takes considerable brain power. I’m sure this is just the way it’s gotta work, but I’d love any tips! I’d especially like tips on when to start refactoring or how to best organize things.

#Linux #ubuntu question: my limitation to ditch windows entirely is that I need to be able to do #academic writing #WordProcessor, i. e. texts with footnotes and with access to my library database. have been using #notabene for decades and have an extensive library database built up. so far I have been unable to run Notabene on Linux. tried exporting the library database to #zotero once and that was a mess. any thoughts appreciated...
I'm about a week into using #zotero and just wow. The browser plugin is MAGICAL. I'm cruising a lit review and seamlessly building a research library for a paper I'm working on next week.
