What's the isse with Discourse federation?
@yala currently there is less of an issue than previously. But the federation for a long while added everything with a hashtag of #ActivityPub, and this added a 'spout' of all kinds of stuff from across the fedi. Random topics and context collapse followed. Furthermore there are no titles in #microblogging 'sticky notes', so excerpts from first line of text were shown, making it even more messy.
Effectively #SocialHub topic list became like a link aggregator for sticky note excerpts.

@devs it's not only spam, but also that #Forums don't map 1-to-1 to #Microblogging platforms, and how to best integrate both of these domains well in the interoperable #fediverse, is still an ongoing effort.
I'd pose that #SocialHub #ActivityPub community has not benefitted from their long-term desire to become fully #fedi integrated, because of these #challenges.
But this forum exists exactly for that kind of experiments, to find what works and learn from it. Things are improving, but slowly.
This is why the forums don’t syndicate to Mastodon
Twice, in the past, I have thought it would be nice if everyone’s stuff made it out onto social media. Both times, I have enabled syndicating forum topics. Both times it went badly.
We ended up syndicating spam that is easy to remove here, but hangs about in FediSpace forever.

I’m sure there must be a way to revoke that stuff, but I’m not sure what that way is. So, until we can undo spam that gets syndicated, forum stuff will remain local only. If someone can help me figure out how to unspam social media, I think it would be nicer to take a poll to see if our active members even want our forums appearing on social media.

Perhaps I still got to get used to it, but unwieldy #UX for quoting in #Mastodon.
The boost icon opens a new dropdown menu, with an extra click required, and changing post visibility leads to opening a full configuration dialog you must configure and save.

We checked into a hotel on Saturday and the TV had the typical thing where it was like "Welcome, Alice!" along with a loop of obnoxious ads about the hotel chain and my hotel ritual is turning that off ASAP, but the remote was nowhere to be found.
At that point, my husband started looking behind and under everything and essentially crawling around on the hotel room floor until he found the remote under the bed.
It was really small and basic, but I also have a Roku remote that's kiiiiind of similar so I started smashing all of the buttons trying to turn off the damn TV, but nothing happened and it was at that moment that everything clicked and I was like "oh no is this a remote for someone's sex toy?" and then Google lens confirmed my theory.
I immediately placed it in a tissue and went down to the lobby to tell reception what I found and to trade that remote for a real TV remote, but I can't stop thinking about what I may have been doing to the poor person in possession of the other half while I was smashing all of those buttons.
