Today I learned that neomutt has vibecoded commits.

At first I was angry. Then I started pondering the connection between anything using the neo- prefix and these sorts of choices.

Grimly, I've noticed such things tend to reveal themselves about the time you decide to trust them.
@RussSharek i doubled my usual basement bargain phone budget for this one, so i am expecting the worst on that basis. The neo thing is just extra fuel for pessimism. 😂

The venerable mutt has no such commits, and is regularly updated. Any idea what I'd be "giving up" to take a giant leap backwards?

Of those, notmuch support and the trash folder might trip me up.
If I recall correctly mutt caught up neomutt in terms of usability/missing functionalities, so rather it will not be a big deal.
@bpl @RussSharek One thing I have noticed is that accessing large mbox files over IMAP is no longer slow. It used to be terribly slow but something was fixed a year or two ago which means I no longer have to split mail off into separate archive files once per year. (Never used neomutt so no idea if this applies to anything but regular mutt.)

@RussSharek i just bought a cheap phone, the model i was specifically looking for was sold out everywhere but the 'neo' variant was available so i went for that one. I hope this isn't a portent...
