My hot take is that the rise of far-right ideology in modern times is simply because being the mean-spirited counter-culture opposition is universally cool and admirable. Breaking progressive social taboos gives the feeling of rebellion without requiring a commitment to other people’s freedoms.

@Migueldeicaza Probably increasingly with the advent of social media and “decentralized” media production. Biden-era Joe-Rogan-adjacent podcast culture could not have existed in previous eras and was as hot as any media product could be and galvanized tons of young men. It all flamed out once Trump won because it lost the counterculture appeal.
