Yeah. Kind of want them to have a little anteroom for this. Aerosols DO escape into the air from toilets during flushing. It's a known disease vector. So it's not an irrational taboo.
@evan Yeah, that situation makes sense. It’s always good to buy drinks with a lid and straw, or bottled drinks, for that situation—especially when one considers airport prices. And yeah, even despite all that, one would still feel eerie.

So, I guess my answer would be no, but sometimes you do not ok things because the alternatives are even less ok.
@evan I don’t love it, but one may feel forced to do so in public spaces. E.g., if you need to use a public bathroom while you’re walking around with a drink you bought somewhere.
For men, those sometimes come with shelves mounted above the urinal for the explicit purpose of giving you somewhere to put such a beverage down.
So that’s a “Yes, but” for me.

I once lived in an old warehouse and one of the makeshift flats had a toilet and bathtub in the kitchen, only seperated by a curtain.
It was cool when drinking wine in that kitchen. Conversations just went on when someone had to pee.

Yes as long as you share it with the other person or people in the room.

(Some Midwestern basements inexplicably have a toilet in the middle of a large room, and that room is also for storage, including food storage. I once heard a theory the intent was to build a bathroom around the toilet, but then people just didn't.)
Ah yes, the Pittsburgh toilet! I was told that it was for miners and other blue-collar workers who need to clean up before they head further into the house.
But then why a toilet? IDK, maybe if you were dirty and needed to use the bathroom you could before going further into the house to reach the real bathroom?? But then, what about privacy? This is getting less clear the further I go lol

Thanks everyone. I thought of this the other day when I was at the new Montreal Metropolitan Airport in St. Hubert. I had a big drink that I didn't want to throw away or finish, but I also needed to use the washroom. So I took it into the humongous men's room, brand new and completely empty, left it on an untouched sink, and watched it from 20m away. And it still felt very weird!
