TIL that @wikidata apparently needed a "Nazi Reich Ministry Official ID" https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P14888
While #Wikidata struggles holding enough information, someone thought capturing more Nazi history is important
@auschwitzmuseum, I like an expert opinion. what do you think of this new Wikidata property? Is this about not forgetting about the horrors and the evil? I do not know, but I don't feel good about this property personally.
@enrvco hi! my concern is just that I strongly fear that this information will be misused. as a scholar, we know that any information we produce can be misused and that it often will. that unease I feel is real.
I posted because I am not sure boosting Nazi culture in a time with rising Nazi glorification is a good thing and I like other opinions

I think the documenting is done by the external resources and Wikidata just makes the information easier to find. Wikidata is not supposed to have unique data... (sic)
Also, the disambiguation needs some further explanation... I don't get how that is applicable here. Whom are you going to confuse that Nazi with?
@egonw @wikidata @auschwitzmuseum you can find the property proposal at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Property_proposal/Officials_of_Nazi_Reich_Ministries_ID - it looks like it’s already widely used across Wikipedias. Adding an ID to existing items is much less strain on services than bulk-adding many new items.

@egonw Hi, I proposed this property and don't understand your criticism.
External ID properties link to credible sources for more information on an item and this is a scientific biographical dataset by the University of Heidelberg highly relevant for perpetrator studies, which until now wasn't available as linked open data, many of the subjects not even having a GND identifier.
Also imo this doesn't impact Wikidata at all, which itself doesn't struggle, only its Query Service does.
