@imanijoy If we had some ability to set policy of "local public" to be limited to the scope of a certain tag we could set when we are doing certain activities, like movie watch parties, that would be cool, and would not interfere in the main feed.
So if we registered certain tags somewhere to be limited in visibility scope, messages tagged with those registered tags would be visible and open to replies only from other people who also registered that tag.
@allanb cool idea! My poll specifically asks about preferences with the **existing** options because while we have a backlog of things we'd like to do to expand visibility settings, most involve major changes that would impact not just Mastodon but ActivityPub.

There are times when I read a thread of someone's, where we mutually follow each other, and I get the distinct impression that there are several 'invisible' posts, as evident when an aswer is given, yet I don't see a post containing the question. It happens multiple times in the same thread, so there's obviously a give and take in process, but as a viewer/reader, I never see the entire conversation.
If that can be worsened by adding yet more layers to permissions, I'd vote NO.
@lumiworx the behavior described in the poll wouldn't introduce any new capabilities that aren't already possible to set on replies – they'd simply allow users to distinguish a different default behavior for replies vs. posts.
@imanijoy you mean, as the original poster, all replies to your post must be x, or any replies I make to other people's posts must be x?
@GrahamDowns great question! The post I quoted explains this more, but I'm asking about the visibility of your own replies. Today, you can set visibility of your own posts when composing (and set a default for that in Settings). If you had a separate default that would apply when you're sending a reply, what would it be?
I set my default to match the post I'm responding to. I'm not sure if that's just a Tusky thing but I love it.

@imanijoy Same as the visibility of the post I reply to. For example: If the post is public, I’d assume that its author wants a public discussion and I’d oblige.
@imanijoy Voted Quiet public! 💜 It's the sweet spot imo - I can still be part of conversations but without flooding the timeline. Took me a minute to understand why my replies were everywhere when I had it on Public 😅🙏
