It’s actually hilarious how much class shaming goes into picking a music genre. Half my Irish traditional collection wants to be “Classical”. One of em even preferred “New Age”… Gawd
@meljoann there's an argument that traditional Irish is the classical tradition of Ireland. The Brits wouldn't have it, which is a good enough reason in my book.

“Classical” has just become an aspirational genre title over the last century or two… it’s meaningless really.
As a legacy it means “posh blokes paid you to write it and play it”. I think what many people THINK it means is “extremely complex and sophisticated music for geniuses”
@meljoann myeahh I mean for me - 'classical' is a specific era, roughly Mozart-Beethoven. But it's also a term for an art music tradition of courts in Europe, up to something like the late Victorian era.
What I mean really is that sophisticated music with a demanding virtuosity describes a lot of Irish fiddling traditions and neo-classical through avant-garde. I'd put Tommy Potts and Seamus Ennis next to any conservatoire player.
There's a lot in the world of conservatory music that I'd stick by - but I'd definitely say that a lot of 'modern classical' and minimalism are genuinely dogshit. The prestige that follows it is often bullshit, and the culture is increasingly prohibitive of innovation. In the UK at least - east and southern Europe support innovative composers, as do bits of the Germanosphere.
Anyway my point really is the Jagoda Szmytka is great.
