@davidgerard i hesitate to trouble you with this but what i worry the most is the use of ai in drafting and writing legislation. i don't know if you have anything you wish to say, but i assume you might have an unusual ability to correlate diverse pieces of information on this.

The base output needs to be reviewed and mocked by a lawyer or someone who gives a fuck, and even then you really should just hire a lawyer who actually wants to do the work and not offload it to the computer, i know cause i tried it, the ai will be too wishy washy with what ought to be explicit and defined language, and you CANNOT have that in a legally binding document if you’re trying to avoid getting sued immediately the second you do a thing.

@davidgerard I don't have a topic, but I did boggle this morning when I rang to try and rearrange my dentist appointment and got an AI receptionist chatbot. Complete with fake typing noises when it was looking up my details and alternative dates. I asked if it could turn those off for me in future, and apparently it doesn't have access to those settings.

@davidgerard Yesterday I actually took the time to read the statement by the mathematician who claims that OpenAI tried to strongarm him into letting them steal his research. It reads like something from a Mob movie.

@davidgerard To elaborate: I've seen a few reports of people receiving unsolicited emails that claim to be from agents operating on iLands, offering various writing services. I've also seen multiple Masto admins report attempted sign-ups from iLands bots, despite having "no bot" policies.
Seems like the idea is that the bots there have to earn tokens to avoid getting shut off. I expect this could lead to a new wave of OpenClaw type bot slop harrassment, depending on how much popularity the platform gains.
