@rnd It seems to me that's actually long-term sensible behavior. If they can stop inflating the bubble, maybe it can deflate more slowly and less catastrophically.
Also, Amodei's argument seems based on legitimate concerns rather than "the AI Singularity is nigh -- repent all ye non-investors!" or something.
@woozle my guess is that this is purely an economic move to delay / avert the whole "running out of money" scenario
the AI companies are still failing to find the necessary funding, and most of their spending right now is on training new models, so cutting that and justifying it with some "what if the models turn into skynet" reasoning is a sensible move
