Over the last 8 years or so I’ve been in the habit of working with #CraftCMS because it fitted my coding ethos and allowed me to address very considerable scopes without needing to know stuff I didn’t have the inclination to learn. That has served me well.
Inevitably, that CMS is getting infected by the LLM virus. Not at the root (afaik) but in its plugin ecosystem.
And that is the pervasive theme of its latest email newsletter.
There’s an inevitability to this. And a drip, drip effect on me

I’m not walking away from Craft for the foreseeable. But I am looking to fundamentally change my relationship to work and tech generally. Remains to be seen if I can follow through
…I’ve invested thousands of hours in arriving at database schemas and template practices that enable me to architect and express possibilities in the way I think things ought to be for my clients.
And now I find myself falling out of love with all that… ‘clever’ complexity.
I’m craving a practice and a day-to-day that is far simpler. I’m 62 and I’m weary.
It’s time for people younger than me to enthusiastically wade through the slop

EE was what got me properly started in CMS land, circa 2011, and was my go to for about 8 years. So I may have encountered your wife in its forums 👋
I had previously dabbled in WordPress (and have since) but it and I have never got on. I was a long-time admirer of Brandon’s thinking, was enthused by his early vision for Blocks, and I have been happy walking in Craft’s very comfortable shoes.
But now I have an (8-year?) itch

@urlyman I see that, too. I think there’s a bit of a gold rush effect going on now that it’s easy to generate a new plugin in a day.
Then there are plugins that try to work with LLMs and I think that even if you can get a setup that works right now, it’s likely going to change and uproot a lot of that quickly, too.
The move to Craft 6 will be an interesting litmus test on who actually cares about building for the community.
If this isn’t the case, then I’m happy to be wrong, but right now I feel what you’re feeling about a lot of tech.
