I don’t want a new phone, I want easily replaceable phone batteries

Such phones are out there. I decided back in around 2022 that I would either find one with a replaceable battery, or not have a phone.
Faiphone is a good option. I've got a Samsung Galaxy X-Cover 5 – I assume the updated models have retained the user replaceable batteries.
@SJAsh_03 Fairphone uses android/Google system though. This phone business is just dealing with the lesser evil
My approach has been to regard Android as the lesser evil (not as rigidly policed, at least, so far, by its developer) and to disable as much of the Google stuff as possible.
I think Pinefone (Pinephone? Can't remember how it is spelt offhand), and, maybe, Librem, have replaceable batteries if you fancy trying out Linux OS's. It's a pity Graphene is not on more devices.
@farah @SJAsh_03 realistically with phones, either hardware or software will be questionable. I run a FP4 with eos rn, which is mostly degoogled at the cost of funky security practices. Graphene would be nice, until you remember that entails google hardware. Pmos would be nice, until you see the support matrix of pmos on fairphone and realize sound not working on a telephone *might" be a problem. I hate this timeline.

My old fairphone2 lasted 8 years and 3 batteries because they're changeable.
@farah I want upgradable processor and memory, to continue upgrade cycles to later OS versions without requiring all new hardware. Or better yet, smarter OS improvements that still run on the same hardware to stop the endless upgrade cycle.
My iPhone 11 is perfectly fine. I just need a new battery. I don’t want useless bells and whistles

@farah I remember, way back when, moving from a really basic cell phone to a fancy little Blackberry for work. It was so exciting. I then remember moving from that BlackBerry to something more modern and being terribly excited about that.
And then I discovered there's nothing really to do with these fancy phones that is worth anyone's time. Then every iteration of smartphone just seems like a joke of marketers trying to sell me on the most useless shit.
I'd be happy for a battery swap only.
@farah Like, Google really won my heart by having free picture storage, even low quality, for just random stuff I do. And then that went away. And they keep adding more and more cameras to these phones, incrementally better quality, and telling me that's an advance? Telling me about bezel size? Extra processing power?
I don't care.
Any game worth playing on the phone is better played on the computer or a Steamdeck / Switch.
There are no killer apps.
@farah There's nothing worth spending the additional power of a new phone on. It's all such a waste of time. I don't need a slightly bigger screen. Just let me replace my battery.

The guy got a new phone this year, saying he needed it for work. Usually we get new phones together. But I just rolled my eyes this time. Like yes I’m grateful for not needing to use laptops but I don’t need that much precision or resolution for graphics. As long as I can watch my Netflix and read my books and chat on the Fediverse in peace, I’m fine. I’m not trying to launch a lunar mission with it
