Which color was your first computer? 💻 🎨
@Em0nM4stodon So much beige..
(This was a household PC, rather than mine exactly - a Gateway 2000 with Windows 95. The glamour!)
I remember this monitor but I'm certain it was a tower. 1995 or 6 HP Pavillion with Windows 95. I still remember the day my Dad got it all set up and turned it on and being so excited. I had pretty much no reason to use a computer at that age but seeing some of the games and watching him connect to AOL was enough to make it a core memory.
@Em0nM4stodon
First one I bought was charcoal, or some other dark shade of gray. 25MHz 486 laptop.
Had had a fair few work provided beige boxes (work being IBM, mostly) before then.
@Em0nM4stodon
I had a silly dial up emachines which was aol. The best thing about it was the AImchat which was very polite back then and no one hacked anyone.
@Em0nM4stodon beige Packard Bell here
@Em0nM4stodon Grey as far as I remember
@Em0nM4stodon Commodore VIC-20 beige.
@Em0nM4stodon Beige for the Vic-20 which was the first computer in the house (not mine alone). Dad upgraded to the Commodore 64 not too long after.
The first mine-alone computer *could* be the Radio Shack Microcomputer Trainer kit, but if counting more general-purpose and complete systems it was the Color Computer 3 (in that case: white).
@Em0nM4stodon dark gray Powerbook 145. i loved it dearly and more than any other laptop i encountered since.
@Em0nM4stodon
I don't recall for sure if it was beige or black. The screen was green and black, without a doubt. Oh wait, maybe It was amber and black? Naw. Green for the first one. Amber must've have been the second screen

I never thought of the old plasic off-white as "beige", but I suppose it does fit.
First computer that was mine or does a family computer count? I think the first computer in my house was a gateway desktop, so that off-white beige. The first computer that was mine was a hand-me-down macbook that was silver.
Is the turquoise option here for those clear blue plastic macs?
@crypticrainfall Yes I thought it might be more common than it seems to be
I guess this is beige
@Em0nM4stodon I marked beige, but that was my first PC, maybe grey-ish. Thans I remembered my first computer was a ZX Spectrum, it was black naturely.
I'm taking this question to mean "which color was the first computer you were allowed to futz with regularly?" not "which color was the first computer that was your own?".
No idea what the board was in it, but it was a generic beige 486DX4 mini tower running OS/2 WARP 4.
@Em0nM4stodon It was a home built system back in 1978 which lived in a cardboard box.
@Em0nM4stodon A 1980 16 kbyte Commodore PET! At the time thought it looked like something out of Star Trek. The read/write cassette tape spoiled the illusion somewhat 😄
@Em0nM4stodon Ivote for black, but the Amstrad CPC464 is dark grey
@Em0nM4stodon
The first computer I used?
Blue and grey I think .
Owned? Beige.

Amstrad CPC 464 Colour Personal Microcomputer.
That phrase is so embedded in my brain that I'm afraid if someone were to say it directly to me I'd activate and assassinate a world leader...
@Em0nM4stodon
Black, with plastic touch-keyboard, if I recall correctly: ZX81 with a... wait for it... 1Mb extension...
Man, was i proud to own it...
After that came the Spectrum and the QL...
@Em0nM4stodon @DelilahTech Black with rubber keyboard and a noisy cassette player. Fuck, I am old… 😨
Green/spotted (a bare board Sinclair ZX81 kit).
@Em0nM4stodon Timex-Sinclair 1000, aka calculator with delusions of grandeur.
@Em0nM4stodon Black, but had a rainbow! (ZX Spectrum)
@Em0nM4stodon my first computer was given to me by my dads girlfriend, and was in a bright red painted metal case. Prior to that I used my dads computer, which was black.
The first computer I ever assembled myself was black, and the first prebuilt computer I ever disassembled was black. All the computers I ever used in school were also black.
First laptop I ever had was silver. When I had a Macbook it was silver, and now my current laptop is silver.
@Em0nM4stodon the colour of the first computer I bought was anthracite, the colours of the first computer I used was black
@Em0nM4stodon Beige (Commodore VIC-20). But my first “proper” computer (PowerMac 5500) was black.
@Em0nM4stodon Wire wrapped board with no case. So brown and black, I guess.
@Em0nM4stodon Mine was one of these beauties. Atari PC3, 8088. What a beauty it was.

My first computer was an S-100 backplane with an S-100 Z-80 board complete with 64K memory. The linear +8volt and +/- 16volt power supplies and two 8" Shugart floppy drives were next to it on my filing cabinet.
Later I mounted all that in the base of an old Vydec word processor, replacing the Vydec screen and keyboard with a wooden top to make a desk.
It was not very portable. 😜
@Em0nM4stodon only the tower.
@Em0nM4stodon c64 (the original model, not the slimmer one), so certainly on the beige scale, but not really what i think of when i think of computer beige…
@Em0nM4stodon Definitely beige on the old TRS-80 Model 4.
