Argh. It is getting more and more difficult to post about good self-hosting options that aren't going AI and/or sponsoring fascists.
I've had to delete several posts before they went live because due diligence turned up something nasty.
Are there any sites that list self-hosting projects which aren't trying to destroy the world?
@homegrown have you ever done anything about hosting on your own hardware? I know it's not an option for everyone but it seems to be going ok for me so far!
@homegrown I'm increasingly of the opinion that we will have to retreat from industrial technology altogether if we want to have a clean conscience. There's always something horrible around each corner being hidden or downplayed to end users. See also: capitalism, colonialism.
I see where you're coming from but I don't think it's useful to make this a binary of "support nazis or abandon technology", as some may use that as a justification for completely abandoning ethical concerns.
There are people doing grassroots tech projects as ethically as possible, I'd quite like to get them more visibility 🙂

You are correct in it bring important to give support to projects that are attempting to be as ethical as possible within the parameters allowed.
But I still find myself consistently turning corners in the labyrinth and find myself at dead ends. And I try now to mentally will myself to rise above the maze and see it from a different perspective.
@homegrown the fracture is real and uncomfortable, and I'm all in favour of the discomfort that comes with plain talk. Going along to get along has been proven a losing strategy on many fronts.
