So there's this place in Georgia, a kind of tourist trap, dedicated to the mostly dead fad of Cabbage Patch dolls, called Babyland General.
It is currently in a massive compound in Cleveland GA, which I used to drive past when I was visiting my mom.
The new compound is apparently slick and shiny. They moved there in like 2010.
So 16 years ago.
The old one though, was horrific.
Here's a video tour of the original location, accompanied by a Babyland General song.
It's legitimately unsettling.
My grandmother used to take me when I was a kid. I don't really know why, because I was not interested in dolls even slightly.
But we went at least 6 times between the ages of 4 and 8.
The original location, as seen in the above linked video, is now an antique store.
Last weekend, I accidentally stumbled across it.
I didn't recognize it until we were half way through the building and suddenly I realized that we were standing where the tree of life and the titular cabbage patch would have been.
Bits of the building are intact, and there are a couple of dolls scattered throughout it, but mostly it's just a weird 80s building.
It was eerie.
It was like walking through a corpse.
Like walking through the ruins of a temple to a mostly forgotten regional god.
