Alr I got an idea:
An 8088 based motherboard, basically a hand-solderable IBM PC motherboard, with VGA and PS/2 and stuff, but ATX formfactor, meaning: you can just chug that bitch into a regular modern PC case.
What do you think?

@lucydev approaching with zero recent knowledge and just for curiosity's sake, is an 8086 a lot more expensive/painful to source or deal with for some reason?
I'm one of the very few whose first Family Computer™ had a bona-fide 8086 in it, so the 8088 mention got me curious.
@deutrino i thought the 8088 would be interesting since that's the one from the originL IBM PC iirc
@lucydev yeah. I think there isn't much difference beyond the 8086 being having higher bandwidth between itself and RAM and maybe executing certain instructions in fewer clock cycles, otherwise they're mostly identical. I think the 8086 came first and the 8088 was a cost-optimized version of it. don't quote me on any of that, it's been a while since I learned about the chips! anyway, cool idea!
