Sigh. Been waiting in this here hospital day surgery unit for four hours now (for a 30 minute procedure).

@cstross i love the nhs. it's better than the alternatives.
but when i go to trafford, the first ever nhs hospital, and i'm reminded (because it's obvious even now) that the site started life as a military base — oh, yeah, that tracks. the rigorous, meticulous routine. the "hurry up and wait". "you'll get what you're given". etc etc

@cstross Wow, and I thought my GP's PB for waiting time, one and a half hours, was bad!
@flyhigh @cstross rookie numbers. My GP is notorious - when I have an appointment, I call 15 minutes beforehand and ask reception what time I should actually come in. It's usually an hour or two later, and then I still end up waiting at least half an hour. He is very thorough though, which is why I put up with it.
@DrMcStrange @cstross That's the way to do it! My GP has, perhaps because his son has now taken over scheduling, gotten a lot better. I'm worried though because my GP is getting to the end of his career and he has been so good. Like you, I've put up with his scheduling because he has really gotten me through some rough stuff and that means cancer, too. (I'm okay!) I don't know what I'll do when he retires.
