Anybody feel like talking about their attempts/successes/reasons for naturalizing in Japan?
@roque Before we do, you know you have to give up all other nationalities if you naturalize? That’s a big factor.
In the end, I did it for practical reasons, mostly that I knew I was going to live here forever and I didn’t think it was a good idea to become an old woman in a place where I wasn’t a citizen.
@softicecreamlesley How about nationalities you can't give up. As a French citizen, born in France of two French citizens, themselves born in France, last time I checked, I couldn't give up French citizenship (unless the law has changed, I haven't double-checked in a very long time).
If I were to become a Japanese citizen (not gonna happen any time soon, but we never know), wouldn't it just be a case of Japan not recognizing my French citizenship but France still doing it?
@David @softicecreamlesley you can voluntarily renounce FR citizenship if you acquired another citizenship
