I haven’t been to the RMIT TAFE library (building 94) in 20 years and back then it ruled because they had G4 PowerMacs with unlimited access to AARNET’s fat gigabit pipe. Today I’m back and they have monitors, keyboards and mice to dock your laptop with! This is fucken sick
every single student around me has either claude, gemini or chagpt running side by side with whatever task it is they're doing (someone's got a CAD thing going, someone else is going hard in VS Code, another guy is watching YouTube, but still has ChatGPT on his laptop screen)
@decryption I'm listening to interesting talks at /dev/world but have Claude Desktop running with 6 chunky tasks all ticking along. Each one of which would have been a week of full time work for me to build 12 months ago.
@bok the software factory is pumping
hahahah, a group of kids is talking about chatgpt (or chat, as they refer to it as) and they all agree that "it fucked up my assignment" and that they can't trust it - but one kid keeps insisting you can make it "correct" lol
@decryption ah the good old "you're promptin it wrong" / "you just have to keep adjusting the prompt"
I figure if the kids aren't interested in a up and coming tech it doesn't have a chance
now a kid rocked up to the empty docking station near me with a massive gaming laptop, a second USB-C monitor (so three monitors all up) and an unopened box of pizza shapes he tore into soon as he sat down - i love him
@decryption I’m at the shops with time to kill while the car charges and you best believe I’m now on the hunt for pizza shapes.
@simon I ate those! They're alright, but unnecessary - straight BBQ or straight pizza aer so much better
@decryption but is he gaming or actually doing work on it?! 😂
@decryption Fuck yeah this dude
@decryption this kid is the only one there with a healthy habit.
I was in a dairy thing yesterday where I literally said to someone, "do not put data from your farm management system into a mistake generation engine unless you want to go bankrupt". They made this face 😳
