It's kind of odd to think about how for Euclid, Pythagoras was kind of a folk story. A guy with a possibly math themed mystery cult. He lived 270 years before Euclid. Kind of like a George Washington? With stories about chopping down cherry trees that might not be true.
The theorem that's named for Pythagoras is even older. A *lot* older. Even to Pythagoras and Euclid Egypt was "ancient" and that's why there is a story that Pythagoras went there to study 'the ancient mysteries.'
Fascinating. Must admit to utter ignorance on the Pythagoreans (as a cultural movement in ancient Greece, rather than an assumed source of mathematical findings). Will read up on them!
The first shocker? You will not get to read a single word written by Pythagoras himself. Just stories and things other people said about him.
And some of them really didn't like him.

Pythagoras did do miracles. For example once at the games he stood up in the stadium and showed that his thigh had turned to gold. Everyone was astonished-- it's a sign of divinity.
I have absolutely no clue what this would have looked like or what exactly it means.
I just imagine a guy in a toga showing off some good looking sparkly leg muscles? What was going on??
