That's a lot of text that I can summarise using my GötGPT¹ as "lots of faff and nothing else". He likes attention as the smart level headed boy in the room plus it's some good PR if he and his minions are smart enough to read the room. Good PR for him and Microsoft.

@davidgerard Now on consequences... idk, is he anywhere near as influential as Musk et al in the West? But maybe he can push around institutions and governments in the global south where his "philanthropy" is weighty enough.

Him being not very well loved in amongst the right wing electorate in the US in particular is an obstacle I think.

@davidgerard the things he doesn’t really say are more interesting. Like he mentions water shortages but then … nothing. And for the guy who w wrote an open letter pleading for people to not pirate his stuff… there’s not a mention of copyright issues
