@Remittancegirl I'm three years away from being offered this by the irritatingly centralized NHS Scotland vaccination service; I had shingles when I was 12 (it sucked) and I'm going to have to look into getting it privately because my hypertension is nothing to laugh about …
@cstross Have a holiday here. It’s cheaper 😂. But seriously, if you price it out over 10 years of protection, it works out at 40 € a year.
@cstross @Remittancegirl not standard here in .nl either, it seems, but will ask my gp about it
@mkoek @Remittancegirl The annoying thing about NHS Scotland is that GPs have no way of telling the national vaccination service about the needs of their patients: they can't prescribe vaccinations directly, they're centrally administered via a contact-free bureaucracy. (You get offered free shots on an age-gated/condition-gated timetable with no flexibility.)
@cstross @mkoek @Remittancegirl What would be handy was if the GP surgery told you automatically what vaccinations you could get at which age.
As a result of reading your exchange, I've sent a request for my shingles vaccination.
No doubt they'll subject me to other indignities at the same time. :)
@wood5y @cstross @mkoek @Remittancegirl Your favourite search engine is your friend

@annehargreaves @wood5y @mkoek @Remittancegirl Wrong, that's NHS *England*. I'm in Scotland. Scotland runs on NHS Scotland, which provides different services. The age guidelines are the same but the process is devolved.
