We now have a new, uprated, RCD in our island unit, as the last one was tripping.
Now - based on pulling the fuse on the mains input to the house - the island works correctly, and continues to supply from the battery while the mains is offline.
I am pleased with this, as that is what I bought in the first place :)
@neil did you have to install any new earth rods? Or was your property already on a TT earthing arrangement? When I spoke to an installer near me he said that our TN-C-S earth would be a problem.
I have not sorted out any sort of smart charging yet; it looks rather complicated, with the potential for a chunky cost penalty for getting it wrong (in terms of consumption during a high price period).
But something for the future.
@neil Remind me, what inverters did you go with?
@neil Home Assistant and the Octopus integration make it pretty easy/foolproof I’ve found.
@ret Yes, it is on my list, but I don't currently have our PV/battery system linked to HA.
@neil @ret It's doable if you get the battery into home assistant, but to be entirely honest Intelligent Octopus Go (IOG) is a *lot* of hassle with a house battery involved, even before Octopus cock up the billing.
I'm seriously considering a competitor with static hours. I kind of enjoy these sort of projects, but IOG is becoming very wearing

I'm old-school with this. I'm on a tariff with a fixed cheap rate period and my battery inverter charges during that period, then supports the household at all other times.
Nice and simple, so long as I check the timings when the clocks change!
(I'm on Intelligent Octopus Go, which needs a compatible EV or wallbox. But it works just as well with boring 1980s Economy 7.)
