I submitted Pull Requests to update MacPorts' libtorrent and rtorrent to 0.16.20 here:
https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/34234
and here:
https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/34235
GitHub Continuous Integration checks are queued and running, hopefully they will go OK?
If so, it's still up to someone else with commit access to merge them!

@teajaygrey Looks like CI doesn’t follow the dependency chain. rtorrent failed to build because it couldn’t find the current version of libtorrent.
Ah, thanks for taking a gander! It appears as if libtorrent CI built OK; so presumably if that gets merged, then the rtorrent CI would pass if re-run?
@teajaygrey Thinking the same. I'll merge them, one at the time.
Thank you!
Since then I see that libtorrent 0.16.21 and rtorrent 0.16.21 have been tagged!
I also noticed MacPorts has libtorrent-devel and rtorrent-devel though they are both years behind upstream (and with nomaintainer I do not know why they existed?).
