Okay so, in all sincerity - I know a number of organizations have basically depended on stuff like Nitter/XCancel as an excuse to continue posting important information on X. Now that people without accounts are really locked out I hope we can actually put serious pressure on organizations to post information publicly.
@misty I worry that if they do anything at all, they're just gonna switch to Instagram.
Which is as inaccessible (and I don't have in my pocket a good nitter-like for it).
@misty This sucks. 100% agree. I've been saying its time for orgs to at least have a mirror somewhere else god damn.
My redirects from nitter -> x, instagram -> imginn, reddit -> redlib.catsarch.com have been solid til now.
@misty Don't let us die here in Gaza; 😢we love life. Please help us—for the sake of our children.
@misty oh is nitter dead?
@AmyZenunim As a doornail, it appears. They got a cease and desist from X today. XCancel was sent the same.
@misty hopefully this convinces more artists to hedge on bluesky or something. idk. it sucks because there's a lot of good art on there but it doubly sucks knowing all of it is being fed into Grok.
I feel like NSFW artists in particular are loathe to at least post their art on bluesky because adult content on bsky is hidden by default and requires opt-in (so they try to avoid using adult content labels or just outright refuse to use them) plus there's the whole age verification kerfluffle going on. At least they don't have a dedicated SlopMachine but it's still not a great situation for people who make lewd stuff.
I don't expect them to bother with fedi due to its niche userbase, if they even perceive fedi at all.
In general 2026 is just a bad time to be an artist who depends on good reach for income 😔
@rinmari @AmyZenunim @misty This is me absolutely betraying my "I only really am on the Fediverse and have been observong BSky from afar", but, darn, are there no alternatove stacks of PDS/Relay(/Appview? I don't think that applies?) that would let them just meaningfully choose to be in a space with a better administration policy?
I know that vaguely-some-sorta-"no single control"/"yes options" was a.. design feature they have been publically making eye contact with. Is there still no credible choice there, still yet? Dang.
@AmyZenunim @misty Bluesky isn't a viable long-term alternative because, in the long-term, it will be fundamentally not different from Twitter because it was literally founded by Twitter's co-creator, Jack Dorsey and will inevitably follow an all too similar path, regardless of its initial stated intent.
"Don't be evil", until after the IPO.
Oh shit. This is a bummer.
