It’s always fun* when one side of a political issue is advocating for doing something incredibly stupid and the other side makes a list of predictions of all the bad things that will happen when you do the incredibly stupid thing and the other side just says “nuh uh!!”
Then when all the bad things come, true, there’s no credit for being right and no penalty for being wrong.
E.g.,
“The Iraq war will be a quagmire”
“Brexit is the economic equivalent of punching yourself in the dick”
*not fun
Now we’re seeing Japan doing something incredibly stupid: pursuing xenophobic policies to sate nationalists, net-uyoku, and racists.
Prediction: the number of foreign workers will crater and cause economic harm. The worst measures will be walked back eventually when the business class realizes they would rather have workers
But incoming foreigners will only partially recover, because Japan’s economy will be even worse off than it would’ve been and trust has been damaged
@FlockOfCats The crazy part with all that bullshit is that with their new laws they're clearly saying that they only want rich immigrants but rich immigrants already don't want to move to Japan anymore because no one who has money wants to be paid in yen nowadays.
